Happy New Year! Are you aware that January is National Walk Your Pet Month? Hey that's okay neither was I!
Loose leash walking is something A LOT of pet owners struggle with. I will be posting videos, articles and tips all month long on how to enjoy walks with your pets. Let's start with some basic information on why dogs pull on leash and some humane devices to help keep them from dragging you down the sidewalk.
Animals are often very excited to go for a walk. They are about to get to see / smell all kinds of great things and get a bit of exercise. They also are going to get to hang out with their favorite pal - you! When animals are excited they can act a bit like a kid in a candy store - fascinated by everything in front of them and running for thing to thing. No one would ever think that kid is trying to control or dominate their parents right? They are simply overstimulated. So they run ahead trying to move quickly to smell as many of the scents as they can, see all the exciting things and boisterously greet other people or animals coming down the street.
The result of this is often a person with a sore shoulder or elbow and a very bruised ego because of their dog's "embarrassing" behavior.
Never fear - I am here to help!
There are lots of humane devices that will help you to manage your dog's pulling behaviors while you follow along and teach them to walk on loose leash this month!
